Chasing Invisible by Karen Pokras Toz

 Blurb:

Could you handle life in the spotlight?

Julia Alexander is a quiet girl from a small town. Content to spend her days with her small group of friends and a pile of books, Julia thinks her future is set. When she unexpectedly meets Chase, a fellow college student and budding musician, she is unaware of just how drastically things are about to change.

Suddenly thrown into the limelight, her life is no longer her own. Relentlessly followed by the paparazzi, Julia is forced to make tough decisions about fame, love, family, and relationships. But just how much will Julia have to sacrifice to become invisible...

Chasing Invisible – Excerpt

“Jules, you’re home! I have to admit, I was a little worried you might not come back.” Chase gave me a kiss as I walked through our front door with Susan and Grace in tow.
“What are you talking about, of course I’d come home.”
Chase looked to me first, then to Susan. “So you haven’t seen?”
“Seen what? Chase, will you please tell me what’s going on?” My patience was beyond thin after sitting in traffic for so many hours.
“Now just promise me you won’t don’t get upset, Jules.” Chase pulled a newspaper from behind his back. It was an issue of some supermarket rag called National Gossip Magazine. He held up the cover.
The headline read:
Honeymoon Over! Julia and Baby Spend Night in Hotel After Brawl at Royal Family Home.
The picture underneath showed me with a scrunched up face, no makeup, messed up hair, wearing a bathrobe, and holding a crying baby. The scene from when I opened the door at the hotel room just yesterday.
I grabbed the paper. “I can’t believe this! How can they do this? Can we stop them?”
“I’m afraid it’s too late. Congratulations, babe. We’ve made it to the tabloids!” Chase said, smirking.
“Why are you laughing? This is horrible!”
“Really, Jules, don’t worry about it. Nobody takes this paper seriously. This same paper reports that our president has aliens in a hidden room in the West Wing and a 10-year-old boy was found in the jungle raised by elephants. Besides, if you read the article, I’m the one who was out boozing all night, hanging with prostitutes. You were the heroic one, taking our daughter away from my evil ways.” Chase playfully kissed Grace on the cheek and guided me to the couch, as Susan headed upstairs.
Grace squealed in delight and giggled as Chase played with her tiny nose.
